The Roseville Police Department held its Annual Meeting of Neighborhood Watch Captains on January 27, 2015. Rob Baquera and Mary Helen Ivers shared updates on crime stats, crime prevention tips and security equipment to help deter home and auto break-ins, basic giving tips on charities, and warned of the latest Top 10 scams occurring in the area. These items and more can be found on the Police Department website… With the recent crime activities in the Westpark and Fiddyment Farm areas, we need to continue to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity. Some of our developments have Neighborhood Watch Captains, but we need many more throughout. If you are interested in finding out who your NW captain is or how simple it is to help your neighborhood, please contact the FFNA NW Coordinator at watch@fiddymentfarm.org. The next Police Department NW start-up meeting will be Feb. 24th.

There was a 2nd public workshop for the Planning & Design of the F- 50 Park (near Fiddyment Elementary School) on Thursday January 22nd at 7 pm -- at the Fiddyment Farm Elementary School - Multi-purpose Room. "The City takes pride in being able to work closely with the neighborhoods that will use the parks. The start of the design process begins with a public workshop to introduce the proposed park design and obtain input from residents. After the plan is revised, a second workshop is held to present the master plan for review. Final revisions are made based on the input gathered at the workshop. The final master plan is then published and written comments to the final master plan are accepted during the public comment period." Download a copy of the Roseville Park Planning Process below: ParkPlanningProcess_2007.pdf Summary from this meeting: On January 21, 2015, FFNA board members Loren & Sue Cook and Joe & Sue Van Zant joined other neighbors at a presentation given by Tara Gee of Roseville Parks & Recreation Dept. to provide updates on the planning of the F-50 Park at Fiddyment Farm Elementary. The latest conceptual drawing presented reflected the top concerns expressed by neighbors from the September 2014 meeting. This rough drawing included the following amenities: Restrooms , walkway around park perimeter, covered picnic area 2 soccer fields, but plenty of open space for other sports usage Children’s play equipment and swings (probably similar to Festersen Park) 3 pods of adult exercise equipment Items not to be included: Baseball diamonds—neighbors previously expressed concerns over lighting and permanent backstops. However, there will be baseball fields at the big park near the future high school. There are currently 900 children registered for Woodcreek Little League and it will be required to split at 1,000 (kids must stay in the same zip code so fields must accommodate them here). Tennis courts—cost is prohibitive, will work with the future high school for 6-8 cluster courts, and there are 2 at Bob Mahan behind St. John’s Church. No artificial turf—holds heat 30 degrees hotter, cost prohibitive: only 8-10 years life, and high replacement costs--$650,000 to replace turf at Mahany Park. $1.5 million has been budgeted for the 8-acre park. Although we are in a Stage 2 drought, recycled water (purple pipe) is used for the West Roseville Specific Plan parks and public areas. So Parks & Rec will move forward in the planning process and presentation to the City Council. Construction could begin late this summer, but more realistically it would be better to break ground in the Spring of 2016. After the meeting, Tara indicated that the F-50 naming is still in the works, no final decision yet. Your FFNA board will keep you updated as we hear further

On Jan. 6, 2015, FFNA members Loren & Sue Cook and Joe & Sue Van Zant met with Westpark Communities developers John Tallman, Jeff Jones, and Aldo Paneschi who gave updates on the Placer Ranch project. Placer ranch will be located immediately north of the Fiddyment Farm and Blue Oaks Neighborhood Associations along board sides of Fiddyment Road up to the South Placer Waste Management Plant. The area belongs to Placer County, but Placer County is still considering arrangements and tax share measures to allow the City of Roseville to annex the property. The City of Roseville Planning Department has a current project map and details of the development on its website [insert link/address here]. Some of the issues discussed included: Placer Parkway—first section begun at Whitney interchange (Rocklin funding) and other sales tax measures being discussed by the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency. Relocate Fiddyment Road to allow westward expansion of the Waste Management plant; and expand Fiddyment Road to 4 lanes between Pleasant Grove to the campus, and then to 6 lanes through the campus to Placer Parkway. Sunset will be widened (already has interchange with Hwy 65). Future plans would extend Westbrook Blvd from the Westpark development all the way to Placer Parkway. Construction will begin first with the proposed college campus area—potential for 30,000 full-time student equivalency (which could mean even higher numbers with part time students). Campus will provide its own police force. Cal State would own its own buildings, and share facilities with Sierra College. There will be a fire station on the east side of the development, along with a Village Center area, and a large business ranch at the top of the project along the future Placer Parkway. There will be an age restricted development to the west boundary north of Fiddyment Farm. The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) will supply water; a new plant is being built at the Whitney Exchange area. FFNA will keep you updated as we hear further. "To recap the police activity in the West Park/Fiddyment Farms area last night, at around 8:10 p.m. officers responded to a residential burglary in West Park, near Fiddyment Road and Village Green Drive. The home had been ransacked and firearms were taken. A short time later, an officer responded to a suspicious circumstances call, and checked on an unoccupied blue Ford sedan parked on Porch Swing Drive near Amberly Court (off Fiddyment Road almost 3 miles north of the burglary location, close to our northern city limits). The stolen firearms from the burglarized home were inside the car. Two adult men, described as either Hispanic or black, wearing dark colored hoodies and baggy pants, were seen running from the car. Roseville officers converged on the area to search for them with the help of CHP's helicopter. They searched extensively, in some areas yard-to-yard, but weren't able to find the suspects. We towed the car, which may have been stolen, and will continue the investigation today to try to identify and arrest the suspects. Any other residents in the area who had a burglary last night should not touch any disturbed areas, in case we can recover fingerprints or other evidence, and call us at 774-5000 extension 1 to file a report." (Short) Project Description: "The 2,213-acre Placer Ranch Specific Plan (PRSP or project) is a mixed-use community proposed for development in the City of Roseville (City) featuring a 300.4-acre California State University Sacramento branch campus (Sac State Placer Campus) and Sierra College transfer center that, together would accommodate 30,000 full-time equivalent students, 3.0 million square feet of academic and administrative space, 23 +/-acres of playfields, parking for 15,000 vehicles and student housing to accommodate 5,000 beds.
